  • Stormwater infiltration testing and design recommendations

Project Summary

Central Engineering Services (CES) provided comprehensive geotechnical services for a large custom home project on a challenging sloping site underlain by basalt. Our work included subsurface exploration to assess excavation feasibility, recommendations for earthwork and slope stability, and oversight during construction to ensure the successful implementation of engineered structural fill and stormwater management solutions. CES's expertise allowed for the efficient use of on-site materials, minimizing costs and environmental impact.

Scope of Work:

CES conducted an extensive geotechnical investigation to evaluate the site conditions and provide tailored recommendations for excavation, earthwork, and slope stability. Our team assessed the feasibility of rock excavation, developed strategies for utilizing excavation spoils, and provided solutions for constructing stable embankments and retaining walls.

Features:

  • Utilized a large-tracked excavator to explore subsurface conditions and determine the extent of hard rock excavation required

  • Provided recommendations for using excavation spoils to construct engineered structural fill for the driveway embankment and yard, ensuring stability even in wet-weather conditions

  • Oversaw the construction of permanent slopes with inclinations of 1H:1V and 1.5H:1V to maintain long-term stability and safety

  • Conducted infiltration testing and provided recommendations for the stormwater infiltration basin to effectively manage site drainage

  • Provided on-site construction oversight to ensure compliance with geotechnical recommendations and best practices

Results:

CES's involvement in the project led to successful excavation and utilization of site materials, reducing the need for imported fill and associated costs. Our oversight ensured the proper implementation of engineered slopes and embankments, providing long-term stability and safety for the property. The stormwater infiltration solutions were effectively integrated, contributing to sustainable site development.
