Project Summary

The Snake River Canyon National Cemetery (SRCNC) project was undertaken for the Department of Veterans Affairs as part of a gravesite expansion initiative. Central Engineering Services (CES) conducted a comprehensive geotechnical investigation, which included drilling and rock coring, to support the expansion plans that featured additional pre-placed crypts, in-ground cremains, and columbariums. The final geotechnical report provided critical design parameters and recommendations to facilitate the design phase of the project.

Scope of Work:

Central Engineering Services completed an extensive geotechnical investigation at Snake River Canyon National Cemetery between April 23 and April 25, 2024. The work included drilling 10 borings with rock coring to evaluate subsurface conditions. The collected soil and rock samples were analyzed to provide seismic design parameters, foundation recommendations, and excavation feasibility assessments. The final geotechnical report was delivered in December 2024, marking the completion of CGS's scope of work and providing essential data to support the ongoing design phase of the expansion.

Features:

  • Conducted a detailed site investigation, including 10 borings and rock coring, to assess subsurface conditions for gravesite expansion.

  • Provided expert recommendations on seismic design parameters tailored to the site's geological conditions.

  • Delivered excavation guidelines to optimize construction efficiency and minimize potential challenges associated with subsurface materials.

  • Collaborated closely with project stakeholders to ensure that the geotechnical findings aligned with the project's design goals and regulatory requirements.

  • Completed the geotechnical report within the project timeline, contributing to a seamless transition into the design phase.

Results:

The geotechnical investigation provided valuable insights into the site's subsurface conditions, ensuring the feasibility of the planned gravesite expansion. The data and recommendations outlined in the final report equipped the design team with the necessary information to make informed decisions regarding foundation and excavation requirements. The project was delivered on schedule and within scope, reinforcing CES's reputation for technical excellence and client-focused solutions.
