Department of Veterans Affairs, San Antonio Preliminary Investigation
Client: Department of Veterans Affairs
Year: 2024 - Ongoing
Location: San Antonio, Texas
Features:
Subsurface investigation involving 20 borings from 40 to 100 feet deep
Execution of three ReMi (Refraction Microtremor) lines for seismic data collection
Ongoing fieldwork with adaptable scheduling
Coordination with multiple project stakeholders and contractors
Compliance with VA and federal guidelines to ensure safety and quality
Project Summary
Central Engineering Services is supporting a preliminary investigation for the Department of Veterans Affairs in San Antonio, working under NDN Companies—who serve as a first-tier subcontractor to Seneca Federal Solutions. The project kicked off on-site in early December 2024 and is still underway. Our team is gathering geotechnical data through drilling and geophysical methods to inform future design and construction for VA facilities.
Scope of Work
Central Engineering Services began this preliminary investigation in December 2024, tasked with conducting 20 geotechnical borings to depths ranging from 40 to 100 feet. The collected soil samples will provide essential data for assessing subsurface conditions, bearing capacities, and potential geotechnical risks. In addition to drilling, three Refraction Microtremor (ReMi) lines are being performed to characterize site-specific seismic velocities and support geophysical modeling. Throughout the project, our team remains in close communication with NDN Companies, Seneca Federal Solutions, and the Department of Veterans Affairs to accommodate scheduling requirements, adhere to safety protocols, and maintain compliance with applicable federal standards.
Features:
Conducting multi-depth borehole drilling to capture varying soil profiles and groundwater conditions
Implementing ReMi surveys to analyze seismic wave propagation and derive site-specific data
Coordinating logistics and access for drilling rigs and field crews
Providing real-time updates and progress reports to project stakeholders
Maintaining stringent health and safety measures at all stages of fieldwork
Results:
As the investigation continues, preliminary findings have begun to shape our understanding of the subsurface and seismic conditions. Data from the borings and ReMi lines will guide recommendations for design parameters, foundation options, and any necessary mitigations for ground instability or seismic hazards. Once complete, Central Engineering Services will provide a detailed geotechnical report, ensuring the VA and project partners have the information needed to move forward with confidence. This proactive approach supports the project's overall success and long-term reliability.
