Project Summary

Central Engineering Services was retained to address petroleum contamination associated with a former fuel dispenser at an active truck rental facility. The project involved a comprehensive subsurface investigation to determine the extent of soil and groundwater contamination. Based on the findings, a targeted remediation plan was implemented, including soil excavation and the introduction of an enhanced in-situ bioremediation amendment to treat the impacted areas. Post-remediation monitoring and vapor intrusion assessments are currently being conducted to ensure the effectiveness of the remedial efforts and support site closure. Throughout the project, operations at the facility remained largely unaffected, ensuring minimal disruption to business activities.

Scope of Work:

The project scope involved conducting a detailed subsurface investigation to evaluate the nature and extent of petroleum contamination resulting from a former fuel dispenser. Soil and groundwater samples were collected and analyzed to determine contaminant concentrations and guide the development of an effective remediation plan. A targeted soil excavation approach was employed, removing contaminated materials while introducing an in-situ bioremediation amendment to accelerate the breakdown of petroleum hydrocarbons. Following remediation efforts, post-remediation monitoring and vapor intrusion assessments were initiated to track the site's progress towards closure and compliance with regulatory standards.

Features:

  • Conducted subsurface investigation with strategic soil borings and groundwater sampling to delineate contamination.

  • Developed and implemented a remediation plan that included targeted excavation and bioremediation to effectively reduce contaminant levels.

  • Coordinated closely with facility management to ensure remediation activities had minimal impact on daily operations.

  • Executed post-remediation monitoring to evaluate the effectiveness of the cleanup and identify any remaining concerns.

  • Performed vapor intrusion assessment to ensure the safety of indoor air quality within the facility.

Results:

The remediation efforts successfully addressed the petroleum contamination, reducing concentrations of petroleum constituents in soil and groundwater to acceptable levels. Post-remediation monitoring has demonstrated steady improvements in site conditions, and vapor intrusion assessments have confirmed that indoor air quality remains safe for occupants. The project was completed with minimal disruption to facility operations, maintaining business continuity throughout the process. Central Engineering Services' strategic approach and efficient execution have positioned the site for regulatory closure in accordance with environmental compliance requirements.
