Project Summary
Central Engineering Services (CES) was engaged by Gensco, Inc. and Scannell Development to provide geotechnical engineering services for their development project in Salem, Oregon. The project, which began in November 2023 and is currently ongoing, required comprehensive geotechnical investigation, design recommendations, and construction oversight. CES played a critical role in ensuring compliance with local regulations and addressing the challenges posed by significant site grading and wet weather conditions. Through close coordination with the project team, CES provided timely solutions to keep the project on schedule and within budget.
Scope of Work
CES conducted a thorough geotechnical investigation to evaluate subsurface conditions and provide design and construction recommendations for the project. This included subsurface explorations and laboratory analysis to inform foundation and pavement design. Additionally, CES provided off-site public roadway design recommendations in compliance with City of Salem standards, ensuring the project met all necessary regulatory requirements. Throughout the construction process, CES maintained an active presence to observe geotechnical conditions and offer guidance on earthwork activities, particularly in challenging wet weather conditions.
Features
Conducted subsurface explorations to assess soil conditions and develop geotechnical design recommendations.
Provided design recommendations for off-site public roadways, ensuring compliance with City of Salem requirements.
Performed on-site geotechnical construction observations during earthwork and foundation excavations, managing fills up to 9 feet deep and cuts up to 40 feet deep.
Oversaw soil improvement measures during wet weather conditions to maintain project progress and schedule adherence.
Collaborated closely with contractors and stakeholders to address geotechnical challenges and optimize construction practices.
Results
The geotechnical services provided by CES ensure a well-informed and efficient construction process. By delivering detailed design recommendations and maintaining vigilant construction oversight, CES contributes to the project's adherence to local standards and regulatory requirements. The team's proactive management of soil improvement during wet weather conditions helped prevent delays, keeping the project on track and minimizing additional costs. CES's involvement allowed for smooth execution of extensive site grading and deep excavation work, reinforcing the project's structural integrity and long-term performance.
